This has to be my favorite project. I love reading tarot, even though I still have a lot to learn.
After buying a few artistic versions of tarot, I decided I wanted to create my own deck. I’m only about a third of the way through, but it has already brought me so many good things.
Setting this goal pushed me to actually spend time exploring my own art style. At first, I tried drawing like my favorite artists, but it didn’t feel right, even if the drawings themselves weren’t bad.
After a few months of experimenting, I finally found it: a simple, uncomplicated style. It may not be perfect, but it feels right. Isn’t that the whole point?
I didn’t want to just redraw the Rider–Waite images. Instead, I thought it would be more meaningful to focus on the atmosphere of each card and the feelings their meanings give me. Maybe that’s why it’s taking so long to finish this project!
Below are a few cards I’m proud of and wanted to share with you.
